City of Peoria: Making Recreation Interactive Again

November 3, 2021

The City of Peoria offers a wide range of programs through its libraries and economic development team, from entrepreneurship workshops to resume building. But the City noticed that a large group of residents couldn't take advantage of them. Working adults, particularly those between 35 and 50, were juggling jobs, families, and ambitions of their own. Many told the City they wanted to connect with other entrepreneurs and working adults who were starting side businesses, but getting to an in-person program was often out of reach. Some didn't have the time. Some lacked transportation. And sometimes the babysitter simply cancelled at the last minute.

‍

Peoria partnered with Televeda to launch the Peoria Interactive Experience. P.I.E. gives residents a single online home where they can join live sessions, watch recorded workshops on their own schedule, and connect with fellow members, hosts, and City staff.

‍

The programming centers on practical, career-building topics. Members have attended sessions such as Level Up Your Business's Instagram Game, Social Media Marketing, I Need to Sell Online, and Innovators Collide, alongside Pitch In, P.I.E.'s recurring entrepreneurship session. The City also used the platform to address pressing local needs, including a Seminar on Housing Navigation for Peoria Residents that walked attendees through the Valley's rapidly rising rental market. Because P.I.E. runs on Televeda's platform, members can also take part in wellness and social classes such as Zumba Gold, Chair Yoga, Tai Chi, Healthy Cooking, and art discussions, giving busy adults a way to care for their wellbeing alongside their careers.
